The death of Henry Wittrock occurred at his home last Wednesday, December 5th after a lingering illness of heart trouble and dropsy.

In the death of Mr. Wittrock we lose another of our first settlers who came here a year after the opening of this country.

Henry Wittrock was born March 14th, 1850 at Dinklaye [Dinklage], Oldenberg, Germany. While still a young man, he immigrated to America and settled down in Petersburg, Nebraska, where he remained for several years and then moved to Okarche, where he lived about 5 years, from there he moved to the farm east of Okarche where he resided until his death.

In the year 1893 he married Miss Anna Sprenger, and to this union were born eleven children, one of whom preceded him in infancy. The remaining children are Anna, (now Mrs. Joe Lechtenberg of Granville, Ia.), Anton, Bernard, Paul, Frank, Marie, John, Thresha and Michael.

Mr. Wittrock was an industrious farmer, was highly respected, and did much to foster the upbuilding and settling of this locality. He went through the hardships of the pioneer days when it was sometimes hard to even provide a living for a family, and he saw many changes made during his years as a resident. His death is deeply mourned by his wife, children, and four grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Thresia Siemer of Panama, Iowa.

AGED PIONEER of OKARCHE HAS GONE TO HER REWARD

Mrs. Anna Wittrock died at her home at an early hour Wednesday, January 28th, 1925, following an illness of a year.

Mrs. Wittrock was first taken ill with rheumatism and arthritis, last January, and never fully recovered from the effects, She was aged 54 years, 5 months and 9 days, and has been a resident of Okarche since the opening of the township of Okarche.

Anna Sprenger was born September 19, 1870 in Westphalia, Germany, and grew in young womanhood in her native country. She was united in holy wedlock to Henry Wittrock who preceded her in death about 14 months ago.

Mrs. Wittrock was the mother of 11 children, ten of which are living - Joe, Anna (now Mrs. Joe Lechtenberg of Granville, Iowa), Anton, Bernard, Paul, Frank, Marie, John, Thresia, Michael, and one died in infancy.

Mrs. Wittrock was a devout member of the Catholic church, a loving mother, a kind friend, and her death will be deeply deplored by her sons and daughters who have spent many years together as a quiet but happy family.

Funeral services were held at the Holy Trinity church Friday morning at 8:30 o'clock and burial took place in Catholic cemetery. May she rest in peace.

Joe Wittrock, 51, life-long Okarche resident, died today in an El Reno hospital after an extended illness.

Funeral services will be conducted at 9 a.m. Tuesday in the Okarche Catholic church with Rev. Frank Warnke officiating.

Burial will be made in the Okarche Catholic cemetery. Benson funeral home is in charge of arrangements.

Surviving Mr. Wittrock are two daughters, Mrs. Mildred Pappe, Okalahoma City, and Miss Rita Wittrock, of the home; five sons, Cletus Wittrock, Herbert Wittrock, Lewis Wittrock, Lawrence Wittrock, and Carlos Wittrock, all of Okarche; two sisters, Mrs. Anna Lechtenbert, Peterburg, Neb., and Mrs. Teresa Werner, Omaha, Neb,; and six brothers, A. H. Wittrock, Bernard Wittrock, Paul Wittrock, Frank Wittrock, and John Wittrock, all of Okarche, and Mike Wittrock, Carroll, Iowa.

Funeral Held for Joe Wittrock

Requiem mass was held Tuesday for Joe Wittrock, 51, Kingisher county farmer, who died Friday at the El Reno sanitarium, following an illness of a few weeks. Rev. F. Warnke officiated at the mass and at the grave in the Holy Trinity cemetery. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Mildred Pappe of Oklahoma City and Miss Rita Wittrock of the home; five sons, Herbert, Lawrence and Carlos Wittrock of the home; Lewis of Carroll, Ia.; and Cletus Wittrock of Okarche; two sisters, Mrs. Anna Lechtenberger, Petersburg, Nebr., and Mrs. Teresa Werner of Omaha, Nebr., and six brothers, A. H., Paul, Frank, John and Bernard Wittrock, all of Okarche; and Mike Wittrock of Carroll, Iowa. He also leaves four grandchildren.

Obituary

Joseph Nichols Wittrock was born March 17, 1895 near Okarche and was reared and educated in this community. He died at the El Reno sanitarium Jan. 31, 1947 at the age of 51 years, 10 moths and 14 days. He had been ill since August 1946 and was hospitalized since January 14 at the sanitarium. On Sept. 25, 1916 he was married to Rose Nieland at Breda, Iowa. She preceded him in death on August 26, 1935. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Mildred Pappe of Oklahoma City, and Rita Wittrock of the home; five sons, Cletus, Herbert, Lawrence and Carlos of Okarche and Louis of Carroll, Iowa; two sisters Mrs. Anna Lechtenberg of Petersburg, Nebr., and Mrs. Theresa Werner of Omaha, Nebr.; six brothers, Tony, Frank, Paul, Ben and John Wittrock of Okarche and Mike of Carroll, Iowa. He also leaves four grandchildren. One sister, Mrs. Anton Smith preceded him in death several years ago. Funeral services were held Feb. 4, in Holy Trinity church with Rev. F. Wernke officiating. Interment was made in Holy Trinity cemetery. The six surviving brothers were pallbearers. Attending the funeral from out-of-town were Mike Wittrock and Will Nieland of Carroll, Iowa.

Funeral mass for John A. Wittrock of Okarche has been set for 4 p.m. today at the Holy Trinity Church in Okarche, with the Rev. Marvin Leven officiating. Burial will be in the Holy Trinity Cemetery under the direction of Huber-Benson Funeral Home.

Mr. Wittrock died March 26 at his home in Okarche. He was born Jan.10, 1908, in Okarche and was a longtime area resident.

Mr. Wittrock was a retired farmer-rancher and was a member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church and the Catholic Order of Foresters.

Survivors include his wife, Teresa of the home, his sons; Harold, Henry and Raymond, all of Okarche and Mark of Yukon; his daughters, Ruth Knecht and Joan Wittrock of Okarche, Edna Elemenhorst of Moran, Kan., Irene Garrett of Kingfisher, Clare Scott of Pryor and Anita Kowaisly of North Ridgeville, Ohio; his brother, Mike Wittrock of Carroll, Iowa; his sisters, Theresa Werner and Ann Lechtenberg, both of Omaha, Neb.; 31 grand-children and 18 great-grandchildren.

Teresa C. Wittrock, 87, of Okarche died Monday, Nov. 2, 1998 at First Shamrock Care Center in Kingfisher.

A wake will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Holy Trinity Church in Okarche. Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Holy Trinity Church officiated by Rev. Weisenburger. Burial will be at Holy Trinity Cemetery under direction of Sanders Funeral Service of Kingfisher.

She was born Sept. 26, 1911, at Thomas [Custer County, OK] to John K. and Mary Werner Smith. She married John A. Wittrock Sept. 2, 1931 at Okarche. She was a housewife and a member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters of America, Altar Society and the Busy Bee Home Demonstration Club.

Survivors include four sons, Harold and wife Carolyn Wittrock, Henry and Wife Charlene Wittrock, all of Okarche, and Mark and Mary Wittrock of Yukon; six daughters, Ruth and Paul Knecht and Joan Wittrock, all of Okarche; Edna and Joe Elmenhorst of Moran, Kan., Irene and Tom Garrett of Kingfisher, Clare and George Scott of Pryor, and Nita [Anita] Kowalsky of North Ridgeville, Ohio; one brother, Tom Smith of Okarche; five sisters, Sister Mary John and Sister Bridget, both of Wichita, Kan., and Rose Kelley, Marie Krukowski and Ramona Glidewell, all of Tulsa; 29 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.

He was a retired farmer and resident of the Okarche area all of his life. He was a member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church and the Foresters.

Katherine Wittrock, 87, of Okarche, died at her home Friday, Sept. 15, 1995.

Wake service will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Okarche with Mass of the Christian Burial at 2 p.m. Monday at Holy Trinity with Rev. Edward Weisenburger officiating, followed by burial in Holy Trinity Cemetery under direction of Sanders Funeral Servide.

She was born Jan. 4, 1908, in Okarche to Geroge and Katherine Otis Alig. She had lived most of her life in the Okarche area.

She was a member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, altar society, Catholic Daughers of America, and Happy Homemakers Extension Club.

She was a graduate of St. Anthony's School o Nursing in Oklahoma City.

Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Tom (Ann) Coffey of Okarrche; Ms. Ron (Mary) Reub of Oklahoma City and Agnes Wittrock of Broken Arrow; two sons, Paul G. "Butch" Wittrock of Josephine, Texas, and Bill and Mary Jane Wittrock of Bethany; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Lawrence Alig of Okarche, Florence Stangl of Casa Grande, Ariz., and Mary Stipe of McAlester.

Services Held Thursday for Anton Wittrock

Wake service for Anton Henry Wittrock, 78 of Okarche were held Thursday, August 26 at 7:30 p.m. in Holy Trinity Catholic church, Okarche. Father Beckman officiated at the 9 a.m. Funereal Mass and interment was in Holy Trinity cemetery under direction of the Hackney Funeral Home.

Mr Wittrock died the previous Tuesday in Kingfisher.

He was born January 10, 1898 at Okarche to Henry and Anna (Springer) Wittrock and had lived most of his life in the Okarche area. He married Betty Wittrey April 9, 1934 at Butte, Neb.

Wittrock was a retired farmer, member of the Holy Trinity Catholic church, Holy Name Society and the Catholic Foresters.

Survivors include his wife, Betty, of the home, two sons, Major Ralph Wittrock of Merced, Calif., and Marvin Wittrock of North Carolina; eight grandchildren; three brothers, Paul and John Wittrock of Okarche and Mike Wittrock, Carol [sic] Ia.; two sisters, Mrs. Anna Lechtenberg and Mrs. Theresa Werner of Omaha, Nebraska.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son Leroy and two grandchildren, three brothers and one sister.

Rosary services for Donald James Wittrock of Okarche, who died Feb. 27 at home, were 7:30 p.m. March 1, at Kingfisher's Sanders Funeral Home Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial was 9 a.m. March 2 in Kingfisher's Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Burial was in Okarche's Holy Trinity Cemetery.

Mr. Wittrock was born Nov.27, 1933, in Okarche. He was a member of the Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Okarche's Knights of Columbus and Kingfisher's Elks Lodge. Mr. Wittrock lived his entire life in the Okarche area.

Survivors include his wife, Beverly of the home; two sons, Steven J. of Kingfisher and Michael J. of Smithville, Texas; a daughter, Mrs. Deborah Miller of Longmont, Colo.; his mother, Mrs. Gertrude Wittrock of Okarche; a brother, Alvin J. Rites for Mrs. Rose Wittrock of Okarche, who died in an El Reno hospital at 7:30 a.m. today following a week's illness, have been arranged at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the Catholic church in Okarche where Monsignor Steiber, pastor, will conduct the services.

Mrs. Wittrock, who resided two miles west and two miles north of Okarche, was 40 years of age, having been born Feb. 20, 1895, at Breda, Iowa.

In addition to her husband, Joe Wittrock, survivors include seven children, Cletus, Herbert, Mildred, Lewis, Lawrence, Retta [sic] and Corlas [sic], all of the home' her father, Henry Nieland, of Breda, Iowa, six brothers, Frank, Will, Ben, Lewis, Joe and Herman Nieland, all of Breda, Iowa; and six sisters who are Mrs. Maggie Mueggenborg of Okarche, Sister Florena and Sister Sigmunda, both of LaCrosse, Wis., Mrs.. Former Resident Of Breda Victim of Brief Illness

Mrs. Joseph Whitrock [Wittrock] Passes Away At Her Oklahoma Home

Breda (Special)—Mrs. Joseph [Wittrock], 40, former resident of Breda, now of Okarche, Okla., passed away yesterday in a hospital at El Reno, Okla. Mrs. [Wittrock] had been ill about a week.

She underwent an appendicitis operation on August 20.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at Okarche and burial will be made in the cemetery at that place.

Mrs. [Wittrock] k is the former Rose Nieland of Breda, daughter of Henry Nieland. She was born February 20, 1895, at Breda. She received her early education in the Breda schools.

In the spring of 1916, she became the bride of Joe [Wittrock] of Okarche, Okla., at Breda.

Surviving are her husband, Joseph [Wittrock],. five sons and two daughters, whose names are not known; her father, Henry Nieland of Breda; six brothers and six sisters, Frank, Ben, Joe, Louis. and Herman of Breda, William of Carroll, Mrs. Margaret Mueggenborg of Okarche, Mrs. Arthur Brawn of Alton, Ia, Mrs. J. J. Wittry of Lidderdale, Sister M. Florine [Florina] and Sister M. Sigmunda, both of Montana. Her mother died two years ago and a brother, Henry, died about five years ago.

Those who left today to attend the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Joe Nieland, Ben and Louis of Breda, Mr. and Mrs. J, J. Wittry of Lidderdale and Mrs. Arthur Braun of Alton.

Louis B. Wittrock, 70, of Carroll, died early Tuesday, January 19, 1993, at the Carroll Manor Nursing Home in Carroll.

Mass of the Christian burial will be at 11 a.m., Friday. January 22, at St. Lawrence Church in Carroll. Celebrant will be Father Robert Gralapp.

Lector for the Mass will be Michael Wittrock, Jr. Gift bearers will be grandchildren, Robby and Jon Wittrock.

Burial will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Carroll.

Casket bearers will be David Wittrock and Mr. Wittrock's five sons, Philip, Richard, Curtis, Charles and Scott Wittrock.

Visitation will begin at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll. A rosary will be recited at 4 p.m. Thursday and there will be a Christian wake service at 7:30 p.m. Thursday by St. Lawrence Parish at the funeral home.

Mr. Wittrock was born November 9, 1922, at Okarche, Okla., a son of Joseph and Rose (Nieland) Wittrock. He spent his younger years in the Okarche area and received his formal education there.

In May of 1942, he entered the U.S. Army and served during World War II in the European African Middle Eastern Theater. He was honorably discharged in August of 1946 and came to the Carroll community to work for his uncle, Mike Wittrock, at Wittrock Motors in Carroll.

He was later employed at the former Deluxe Cleaners and Great Plains Gas Co.

On September 1, 1950, he was married to Ferne Graves at St. Lawrence Church in Carroll. The couple spent their entire married lifetime in Carroll.

He had been a resident of the Carroll Manor for the past three weeks.

Mr. Wittrock was a member of St. Lawrence Parish in Carroll and the parish men's club.

He is survived by his wife, Ferne, of Carroll: five sons, Philip Wittrock and his wife, Tracey, of Omaha, Neb., Richard Wittrock and his wife, Susan, of Minneapolis, Minn., Curtis Wittrock and his wife, Sherry, of Rock Falls, Ill., Charles Wittrock and his wife, Patti, of Denver, Colo., and Scott Wittrock of Wake Island in the South Pacific Ocean; four grandchildren, Robby, Jon, Andrew and Kayle Wittrock; two brothers, Cletus Wittrock and his wife, Loretta, of Okarche, Okla., and Carl Wittrock of Bethany, Okla.; and two sisters, Rita Forman and her husband, Stanley, of Kingfisher, Okla., and Mildred Pappe and her husband, Max, of Cathedral City, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Joseph, in infancy; and two brothers, Herbert and Lawrence Wittrock.

Bishop Leo Arkfeld, S.V.D. (1912-1999)

Leo C Arkfeld was the grandson of Maria Sophia Thresia Wittrock (Siemer). He was born February 04, 1912 in Butte, Nebraska and moved to Panama, Iowa at the age of 4. He died on August 21, 1999 in New Guinea. He was world famous for his missionary work in New Guinea and was widely known as "The Flying Bishop of New Guinea."

Lawrence Wittrock

Lawrence Wittrock, 57, of Okarche, died Tuesday in his home in Okarche.

Wake Bible Services for Wittrock were held at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Holy Trinity Catholic church with Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. Friday in the church.

The Rev. Charles Beckman officiated. Wittrock was buried in the Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery in Okarche.

Wittrock was born Feb. 22, 1925, in Okarche and had lived in the Okarche area his entire life. He and Jo Anne Vrana were married Aug. 17, 1949, at Edmond [Oklahoma].

Wittrock was a memeber of the Holy Trinity Catholic church, the Knights of Columbus No. 3220 and the Foresters.

He is survived by his wife of the home; three daughters, Mrs. Roberto (Pam) Sanchez of Oklahoma City, Mrs. Rod (Patty) Mills of Oklahoma City, Mrs. David (Paula) Post of Kingfisher; two sons, Joe Wittrock of Oklahoma City and Tom Wittrock of Yukon; six grandchildren, three brothers, Cletus Wittrock of Okarche, Louis Wittrock of Carroll, Iowa, and Carlos Wittrock of Oklahoma City; two sisters, Mrs. Max (Mildred) Pappe of Cathedral City, Calif., and Mrs. Stanley (Rita) Forman of Kingfisher.

Wittrock's family has suggested that those who wish make contributions in his memory to the Center of Family Love in Okarche.
