Thomas J. Boes 1940-2005

Carroll, Iowa—Tom J. Boes, 65, of Carroll died Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2005, at St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll.

Mass of the Christian burial will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Carroll with the Rev. Clair Boes officiating. Lector will be Bert Morenz. Gift bearers will be Mr. Boes' grandchildren. Servers will be Danielle Pille, Mackenzie Pille and Colby Baumhover. Eucharistic ministers will be Peg Sanders and Diane Boes.

Casket bearers will be Cory Boes, Rob Boes, Greg Losh, David Sanders, Daryl Sanders, James Sanders, Eric Polson and Brian Barrett. Honorary casket bearers will be Joe Greteman, Dale Steinkamp, Archie Schugg, Tom Kelly, Denny Halder and Art Reicks.

Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery at Carroll.

Visitation starts at 2:30 p.m. a rosary will be prayed at 3 p.m. and a vigil will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Twit Funeral Home in Carroll. Visitation will resume at 11:30 a.m. Friday at the church. Memorial contributions can be made to Kuemper Catholic Schools and left at the funeral home or church.

A son of Leonard and Nina (Booth) Boes, he was born June 9, 1940, at Carroll and was educated at St. Bernard Catholic School in Breda.

He and Karen M. Heithoff were married Oct. 7, 1961, at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Roselle.

He and Patricia Sanders were married April 30, 2004, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Carroll.

Mr. Boes worked for Breda Creamery, Pepsi Cola in Carroll, and Home and Commercial Construction. He was maintenance engineer at Holy Spirit School and Kuemper High School from 1982 until illness caused him to retire recently.

He was a former member of the Breda Fire Department and member of Holy Spirit Parish and Men's Club. He received the 1998 Vocational Human Service Award for Non-Profits from Carroll Rotary Club. He enjoyed dancing, collecting John Deere memorabilia, gardening, playing cards and working with the school kids.

Survivors include his wife, Pat Boes, of Carroll; his mother, Nina Boes, of Breda; two sons: Rob Boes and his wife Janell of Council Bluffs and their children, Claire, Anna and Ella, and Cory Boes and his wife Denise of Gretna, Neb., and their children, Ethan, Brynn and John; three stepsons: David Sanders and his wife Peg of Carroll and their children, Josh, Bobby and Brady, Daryl Sanders of Carroll and his children, Scott, Jason and Laura, and James Sanders and his wife Julie of Carroll; two daughters: Carla Losh and her husband Greg of Council Bluffs and their children, Melissa and Brittany, and Michelle Barrett of Bellevue, Neb., and her children, Brian and Maggie; a stepdaughter: Linda Polson and her husband Eric of Lenexa, Kan., and their children, Jordyn and Lauren; four brothers: John Boes and his wife, Carol, of Carroll, Kevin Boes and his wife, Diane, of Carroll, Bryan Boes and his wife, Delynn, of Arlington, Texas, and Keith Boes and his wife, Kelly, of Carroll; and four sisters: Lynn Brincks and her husband, Larry, of Lake View, Diane Rouff and her husband, Bill, of Fort Worth, Texas, Rhonda Boes of Fort Worth and Kathleen Underberg and her husband, Ted, of Breda.

Mr. Boes was preceded in death by his father; his first wife, Karen, in 1996; a son, Bret A. Boes; and a grandchild, Libby Boes.
