Susan A. Nieland, 89, of Carroll died Wednesday, Aug. 3, 1995, at St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll.

Funeral services for Mrs. Nieland will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug 5, at Holy Spirit Church in Carroll with Father Richard Remmers officiating.

Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Carroll.

Casket bearers will be Cyril Heinrichs, Louis Brincks, Omar Langenfeld, William Reineke, Ray Schroeder and Lawrence Haverman.

Visitation will begin at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Twit Funeral Home in Carroll, where a legion of Mary rosary will be recited at 3 p.m. and a vigil service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Born March 25, 1906, in Carroll, she was a daughter of J.J. and Margaret (Flies) Lappe. She attended St. Angela Academy in Carroll and Tobin Business Collage of Fort Dodge.

Mrs. Nieland worked at the Boston Store and Merle Norman Cosmetics, both in Fort Dodge. She moved back to Carroll in 1969. She had lived at St. Anthony Nursing Home since Feb 25, 1993.

She was a member of Holy Spirit Parish, Legion of Mary and St. Anthony Regional Hospital Guild.

Survivors include two daughters, Lorraine Starman and her husband, Tony, of Makuoketa and Marilyn A. Gibbs and her husband Bob, of Ames; a son Dennis J. Nieland and his wife, Alberta, of Missouri Valley; six grandchildren: six great-grandchildren: seven step great-grandchildren: one step great-great-grandchild: two sisters, Florence Lappe of Carroll and Irene Fritz and her husband, Mike, of Omaha, Neb: a brother Nick Lappe and his wife Frances, of Jackson, Minn.; and a sister-in-law, Ernestine Lappe of Carroll.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and three brothers, two in infancy, and Tony Lappe.
