Paul Bernard Mueggenborg 1917-2010

Paul Bernard Mueggenborg, 92, of Stillwater, died Jan. 3, 2010, at his home.

A rosary is planned for 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 7, at St. Francis Xavier Church. The Mass of Christian Burial is planned for 10:30 am Friday, Jan. 8, also at St. Francis Xavier Church. Interment will follow in Fairlawn Cemetery. Principal celebrant will be the Rev. Msgr. Daniel Mueggenborg. Services are under the direction of Strode Funeral Home.

Paul B. Mueggenborg was born July 1, 1917, in Okarche to Henry Mueggenborg and Mary (Dora) Boes Mueggenborg, who had lived in Oklahoma since 1905.He served in the military from 1941 to 1945 and was a member of the 6th Ranger Infantry Battalion in which he fought during the battle of Leyte Gulf, Philippines, and provided support services for the rescue of the Bataan POWs from their camp. He was awarded the Bronze Star for his military service.

Following his military assignment, he returned to Okarche where he developed his farming and ranching business interests and raised his family.

In 1969, he retired from the agriculture industry and moved with his family to Stillwater where he was employed by Moore Business Forms Inc., from which he retired in 1980.

Paul was a very active member of the Catholic Church throughout his life. He frequented daily Mass for more than 60 years and was a leader in various Catholic organizations including the Knights of Columbus and the Catholic Order of Foresters. He received the papal honor of being named a Knight of Saint Gregory the Great by Pope Pius XII.

He was predeceased by his wife of 24 years, Viola Vanderheiden Mueggenborg (June 7, 1960); their two infant children; and his wife of 34 years, Dolores Kerntke Mueggenborg (Nov. 29, 1995). He was also predeceased by all nine of his brothers and sisters, Augusta, Joseph, Alphons, Leonard, Angeline, Vincent, Peter, Raymond and Anthony.

He is survived his wife of 13 years, Victoria Rooney Mueggenborg; his step-daughter, Mrs. Les (Rhoda) Easley; his three daughters Barbara Toelkes (and her husband Ray) of Stillwater, Patricia Christian (and her husband David) of Muskogee and Catherine McLaughlin (and her husband Michael) of Manchester, Maine; and his four sons, Norbert (Linda) of Graham, Texas, Bernard of Stillwater, Patrick of Oklahoma City and Daniel of Rome, Italy.

Other survivors include his sister-in-law, Alta Gilles Mueggenborg; his grandchildren, April Cunningham, Cody Wolf, Travis Mueggenborg, Christina Jeffels, Paul Mueggenborg, Blake Mueggenborg, Benjamin McLaughlin, Mark McLaughlin and John McLaughlin; and six great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
