BREDA— Kathleen E. Underberg, 58, of Breda died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2008, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines following a long battle with cancer.

Mass of the Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Breda with the Rev. James McAlpin presiding. Lector will be Diane Boes. Gift bearers will be Mrs. Underberg's grandchildren: Blake, Kolton, Kennedy and Evan Underberg. Servers will be Colby Baumhover, Miranda Pille and McKenzie Pille. Eucharistic minister will be Carol Boes.

Casket bearers will be Sean Boes, Ryan Boes, Eric Boes, Rick Brincks, Lon Brincks and Mike Brincks.

Burial will be in St. Bernard Cemetery at Breda.

Visitation started at 2:30 and the St. Bernard Ladies Guild led a rosary at 3 this afternoon at Sharp Funeral Home in Breda. St. Bernard Parish will hold a Christian wake service at 7 tonight at the funeral home.

A daughter of Leonard and Nina (Booth) Boes, she was born Dec. 3, 1949, at Carroll, graduated from St. Bernard High School at Breda in 1967 and spent her life in Wall Lake and Breda.

She and Ted Underberg were married Aug. 30, 1969, at St. Bernard Church.

The Underbergs settled in Breda.

Mrs. Underberg worked for General Electric Co. in Carroll and Snappy Popcorn Co. in Breda.

She was a member of St. Bernard Parish and Ladies Guild and enjoyed the outdoors, picnics, playing cards and driving in the country.

Survivors include her husband, Ted, of Breda; three children: Chad Underberg and wife Amanda of Breda, Kirby Underberg and wife Amy of Littleton, Colo., and Shannon Cowans and husband Michael of Virginia Beach, Va.; four grandchildren: Blake, Evan, Kolton and Kennedy Underberg; three sisters: Lynne Brincks and husband Larry of Chandler, Ariz., Diane Ruoff and husband Bill of Fort Worth, Texas, and Rhonda Boes of Fort Worth, Texas; four brothers: John Boes and wife Carol of Carroll, Kevin Boes and wife Diane of Carroll, Bryan Boes and wife DeLynn of Arlington, Texas, and Keith Boes and wife Kelley of Breda; and a sister-in-law, Patricia Boes, of Carroll.

Mrs. Underberg was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Thomas Boes; a sister-in-law, Karen Boes; and a nephew, Bret Boes.
