Mass of the Christian burial for Florence Nieland of Breda will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 23, 2002, at St. Bernard Church in Breda.

Mrs. Nieland, 94, died Wednesday, March 20, 2002, at Carroll Health Center nursing home in Carroll.

Rev. James Smith will celebrate the Mass and lector will be Jodi Brincks.

Gift bearers will be Rhonda Borer, Sharon Gubbels, Mary Jo Schettler and Brenda Bahrke. Mass servers will be Eric Bruning, Justin Bruning and Jeffrey Bruning and eucharistic minister will be Dale Mueggenberg.

Burial will be at St. Bernard Cemetery in Breda and the Breda American Legion Auxiliary and St. Anthony Hospital Auxiliary will form an honor guard at the mass.

A daughter of Gerhard and Anna (Weber) Mueggenberg, she was born Oct. 25, 1907, at Wall Lake.

She attended country school near Breda.

She and Leo Nieland were married Aug. 21, 1929, at St. Bernard Church in Breda. The couple farmed south of Breda until 1955, when they moved into Breda.

Mrs. Nieland was a member of St. Bernard Parish, its Ladies Guild, Breda American Legion Auxiliary, National Catholic Order of Foresters and St. Anthony Hospital Auxiliary. She enjoyed quilting, playing cards and traveling.

Survivors include four children, Melvin Nieland and his wife, Donita, of Carroll, Norman Nieland and his wife Gladys, of Breda, Dr. Leo Nieland of Denver, Colo., and Marita Bruning and her husband, Delmar, of Breda; 16 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren; one great, great grandchild; a brother Gerd Mueggenberg, of Breda; and siblings-in-law, Lawrence and Helen Nieland of Breda, Mary Nieland of Breda; Dorothy Mueggenberg of Arcadia and Lawrence Huegerich of Breda.

Mrs. Nieland was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leo in 1992; a daughter-in-law, Dorothy Nieland, four brothers, Joseph, John, Alvin and Clem Mueggenberg; and a sister, Vernice Schaefer.
