Dennis Joseph Nieland 1933-2000

Mass of the Christian burial for Dennis J. Nieland of Missouri Valley was this morning, Wednesday, April 19, 2000, at St. Anne Catholic Church in Logan.

Mr. Nieland, 66, a native of Breda, died Sunday, April 16, at his home.

The Rev. John Harmon presided at the Mass. Casket bearers were John Rogers, Bob Monahan, Roger Nieland, Bob Erickson, Rollie Priester and Gerald Hamann. Honorary casket bearers were Steve Landon, Wayne Daniels and Dwight Tupper. Burial was this afternoon in Hillcrest Cemetery at Omaha, Neb. Visitation was Tuesday night at Hennessey-Schumacher Funeral Home in Logan.

Born Aug. 17, 1933, at Breda, he was a son of Joseph and Susan (Lappe) Nieland. He graduated from high school in Carroll. Mr. Nieland and Alberta A. Skaran were married Sept. 17, 1955, at Rochester, Minn. He was employed by AT&T for almost 32 years, retiring as an installation supervisor.

Mr. Nieland was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church and enjoyed fishing, bluegrass music and playing the banjo.

Survivors include his wife, Alberta, of Missouri Valley; three daughters and their husbands: Debra and Dick Strange of Oshkosh, Wis., Diane and Michael Nangle of Santa Fe, N.M., and Anne and Michael Lollis of Omaha; two granddaughters; and two sisters and their husbands: Lorraine and Tony Starman of Maquoketa and Marilyn and Bob Gibbs of Ames.

Mr. Nieland was preceded in death by his parents.
